Presentation

At the age of 45, Fairooz Tamimi started a new life in Sweden where she didn’t know a single human being or speak the language.

An engineer, a published award-winning author and a columnist, she thought it wouldn’t be that hard to make things work in Sweden, but she was wrong. From her journey as an entrepreneur who came to Sweden to start her own business, she started building her business: a business accelerator that enables highly skilled immigrants, to start their own companies, with a special focus on women.

Fairooz Tamimi chose Sweden for a reason – the values that Sweden represents; gender equality, openness, secularism, freedom and very importantly being a pro-migration country. However, in the five years Fairooz spent here, she wrote her critical opinion on how integration is working in Sweden in a regular column in Sydsvenskan.

Today, Fairooz Tamimi has founded Care of Business, the first immigrants business accelerator in Sweden, the Immigrants Stand Up Comedy Network, the first network of its kind in north Europe, and The Immigrants Cultural Hub, and working closely with Region Skåne since 2016 as a business advisor and Cross-Cultural consultant on how to utilize the immigrants talents and develop a more inclusive cultural and business environment.

Fairooz Tamimi was a Finalist to H.M. Konung Carl XVI Gustafs pris Årets Nybyggare 2018 and the winner of Göran Tunhammars Award for Entrepreneurship, openness and Diversity in 2016.

Konung Carl XVI Gustafs pris 2018.

Fairooz is seen as a role model, lectures in Lund university, and wrote a regular column in Sydsvenskan for two years, on issues related to non-EU immigrant women, and on her opinion in the social issues in Sweden.

Entrepreneurship as an integration tool
Fairooz speaks about entrepreneurship as an integration tool and how to promote entrepreneurship among non-EU immigrants, especially women, using her own experience and her work for 5 years in Sweden building the first business accelerator for foreign born entrepreneurs in Sweden, Fairooz speaks about the needs and challenges of non-EU entrepreneurs, how to reach out to them and how to utilize the talents of foreign born entrepreneurs in Sweden.

Culture & humor as an integration tool
Founding the ‘ Immigrants Stand-Up Comedy Network’ , working as a cultural producer and cross-cultural consultant, Fairooz speaks about:
– How to use culture and humor to work with the identity questions and as a preventive tool for extremism.
– Culture and humor as a tool to discuss delicate social issues and promoting diversity.
– How to reach out and engage the non-Swedish artists, cultural creators and non-Swedish audience in the cultural life in Sweden.

  • Thank you for a very inspiring and frustrating lecture. Frustrating because you pin pointed certain blind spots and circumstances that I as a person or we as a TV company of cours would like to challenge, but since they are blind spots we obviously are not aware of how and where to start.

    • Fredrik Önnevall, SVT
  • Thank you for your fantastic contribution to our day. I am really looking forward seeing you again.

    • Carola Gunnarsson, fd Kommunstyrelsens ordförande i Sala kommun
  • Thank you for your great lecture! There has been so much positive feedback from everyone about your lecture.
